Megan provides comprehensive, psychological and specialist neuropsychological, assessments as well as treatment for a range of difficulties affecting children, adolescents, young people and their families.

Initial Consultation

In all cases where children or adolescents are referred to Megan, she will meet initially with parents, to gain an understanding of the presenting difficulties, obtain relevant background history and discuss options for the assessment and/or treatment of their child, as appropriate.


Treatment may be on an individual, family or parent basis, or combination of these.  Whilst it is difficult to be specific about time frames for treatment, many clients report benefits from 3 to 6 sessions. However, there are always exceptions to this where people are seen once or twice only, and others who are seen for much longer.

Megan’s approach to therapy is family systems based and informed by psychodynamic and attachment based theories. In choosing appropriate treatment options she is also guided by other evidence based therapies and models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Schema Therapy (see “Therapy Approaches” section), and is informed by professional best practice guidelines and outcome research.

Specialist Neuropsychological Assessment

A Paediatric Neuropsychologist has expertise in the applied science of brain-behaviour relationships. This knowledge is used to provide assessment of brain functioning, to aid diagnosis and assist in treatment and planning and the implementation of rehabilitation and intervention strategies, for individuals with neurological, medical, neurodevelopmental disorders, birth complications, genetic abnormalities, metabolic diseases, psychiatric conditions, or acquired brain damage, as well as cognitive and learning disorders.

Often Paediatric Neuropsychologists work with other paediatric specialists such as neurologists, child psychiatrists, paediatricians, educational psychologists, occupational therapists and speech language therapists.

A neuropsychological assessment provides information regarding intellectual development, memory, attentional control, problem solving, behaviour and many other areas.

A typical neuropsychological evaluation of a school-age child may assess any/all of the following areas:

  • General intellect
  • Academic achievement skills
  • Executive skills, such as organization, planning, inhibition, and cognitive flexibility
  • Attention
  • Learning and memory
  • Language
  • Visual-spatial skills
  • Motor coordination and sensory skills
  • Behavioral and emotional functioning

What Is Entailed?

Evaluations typically include an interview with parents about the child's history, and interview and formal psychometric testing with the child. Testing involves paper and pencil and hands-on activities, answering questions, and sometimes using a computer. Parents may be asked to fill out questionnaires about their child's development and behaviour.

Following assessment a comprehensive written report is provided as well as an additional session to provide verbal feedback and explanation of the key points of the report.


Megan also provides consultations with parents, carers, other professionals, and multi-agency liaison where requested. Megan is also available to provide professional supervision to clinical psychologists and other mental health professionals.
